Online COD Analytical Equipment

What COD means and how it is measured.

The COD value indicates the amount of oxygen which is needed for the oxidation of all organic substances in water and is thus an important indicator for water analysis. It is considered for planning, controlling as well as efficiency of treatment and thus it is basis for the calculation of waste water charges.

The COD can be determined in laboratory or online, wherby the single methods significantly differ in duration and consumables used.

The Analyser system offers clean, fast and accurate analysis of chemical oxygen demand levels in waste water, surface water and process water.

Environmentally Friendly COD Analysis

Chemical Oxygen Demand can now safely and cleanly be determined without the use of chemicals or catalysts.  With the dichromate method or cuvette tests, harmful reagents are required.  This means that laboratory personnel are exposed to these chemicals on a regular basis.  Not to mention the cost of disposing of these harmful waste products.

The COD measurement is based on the thermal oxidation of the sample at 1 200 degrees Celsius. At this high temperature all substances are oxidised (complete oxidation) without the need for reagents or catalysts.

High Salt concentrations are easily handled with the High Salt Option available on the Analyser system.  Salt concentrations of as high as 300 g/L NaCl can easily be monitored on the system.

Measurement Principle

Measuring Ranges: 1-100 mg/L; 10-200 mg/L; 100-1,000 mg/L; 1,000-3,000 mg/L; 2,000-10,000 mg/L; up to 250 000 mg/L

Response Time: 3 minutes

Operating System: Windows 7 or higher

Data Interface: USB 2.0, LAN (optional)

Data Output: Export as CSV-file

The On-Line version of this Analyser system is also available.  For Rapid On-Line COD Analysis the QuickCODultra Analyser system is available and works on the same high temperature oxidation technique as the laboratory system.

Online COD for every kind of water. Especially for the rough stuff.

LAR's QuickCODultra is the ultimate online COD analyser for the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD) suitable even for the most difficult waste water applications.

Exact Analysis. Clean, fast and accurate.

Exact Analysis. Clean, fast and accurate. In contrast to the common standard methods, which are time consuming and require dangerous reagents, the QuickCODultra uses the combustion method. It is fast and takes up the original idea of the complete consideration of, for the oxidation of the organic components contained in the water, oxygen required. This method goes without any use of dangerous and etching substances so that a high operational safty is ensured.

Another advantage of this method: The measurement results are due to the complete digestion of the unique and litigation free from chloride interference.

The real COD. Even with changing sample matrixes.

The entire raw waste water sample including all particles is directly injected into a furnace via the unique injection system. With our ULTRA high temperature method oxygen is used to digest all components. This demand is detected by a special oxygen detector so that the analyser truely measures the real oxygen demand. Even with applications with changing sample compositions the QuickCODultra reliably determines the COD.

High salt concentrations. No problem with the QuickCODultra.

This online COD analyser can handle salt concentrations up to even 300 g/l sodium chloride (NaCl). Salts that melt at the temperature of 1,200°C are vaporised by the combustion power and carried out with the carrier gas to settle in a special retrieving device.

The QuickCODultra. Ultra quick measurements and maintenance.

The measurement of the COD takes place in less than 2 minutes. This speed guarantees that very short peaks can be determined very well during a daily cycle.

The analyser's availability is over 98%. As even in high salt applications its weekly service is about 30 minutes.

Online COD for waste water treatment plants and process monitoring.

TheElox100 of the LAR Process Analysers AG is the ultimate online COD analyser for the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in waste water treatment plants or in the process industry.

The electrochemical oxidation. A clean alternative.

With the patented Lead-Dioxide-Electrode by LAR OH-radicals are produced. Compared to other oxidants OH-radicals have a significantly higher oxidation potential. Thus, hard to oxidize substances can be fast and easily oxidized without using dangerous chemicals. This electrochemical principle is used for our Elox100. During the reaction the electricity produced will be measured, which is proportional to the consumed OH-radicals. The OH-radicals are directly related to the COD again.

This method offers a fast, simple, accurate and pollution-free alternative to the common dichromate method (wet chemical method).

The Elox100. Ultra quick measurements and maintenance.

The measurement of the COD takes place in less than 4 minutes and therefore it is faster than the convential dichromate method, which requires 2 hours. This speed guarantees that very short peaks can be determined very well during a daily cycle.

The analyser's availability is over 98%. The weekly service of the COD analyser is about 30 minutes.

Our Online-Measurement. Clean, fast and accurate.

The technique does not need any hazardous, corrosive substances, so that a high level of operational safety is ensured and the environment is protected.

Another advantage of this method is: The measurement results are due the complete digestion and the unique litigation free from chloride interference.
